There are places in nature and culture with a value and importance reaching far across geographical and political boundaries. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world. These sites are illustrated on postage stamps, giving also a lot of factual and historic information about each site.
