In 1932 Waterton Lakes National Park (Alberta, Canada) was combined with the Glacier National Park (Montana, United States) to form the world's first International Peace Park. Situated on the border between the two countries and offering outstanding scenery, the park is exceptionally rich in plant and mammal species as well as prairie, forest, and alpine and glacial features. See also United States, Waterton Glacier International Peace Park.

• Canada 2005. Waterton Lakes National Park. This stamp is a joint issue with Ireland, consecrated to the Biosphere Reserves. The stamp is cropped from the souvenir sheet containing both the Canadian and Irish issues. 

• Canada 2005. First day cover franked with both the Canadian and Irish issue, cancelled 22nd April 2005 in Waterton Park, Alberta. 

The district of Alberta was created in 1882, and enlarged to become a province of Canada on September 1, 1905. The name was suggested by the Marquess of Lorne, Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883, in honour of his wife, H.R.H. Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, daughter of Queen Victoria.
