Latest update ( 2007-09-10 )
In recent times there have been few ideas of such compelling force as the concept of World Heritage. There are places in nature and culture with a value and importance reaching far across geographical and political boundaries, and each year the United Nations' World Heritage List grows, as new sites of nature and culture which are considered exceptional, are added. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world. This is embodied in the international treaty "Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage", adopted by UNESCO in 1972.

Not all World Cultural Heritage Sites have been described on stamps, but the site is under continuous construction and expansion. For a complete listing of World Cultural Heritage Sites, the criteria for their nomination, and further links, please refer to the official UNESCO listing (containing a total of 830 sites).
New pages will be added to the individual countries with time, as well as more stamps will be added to existing pages as they appear. At present only Nigeria and Togo have not issued any stamps related to their designated World Heritage Properties.
This web site contains 8200+ stamps and other images, and takes 98 Mb web space.
The properties of the individual countries are arranged in chronological order, as per the year they were designated. The number in brackets after each country-name in the below menu indicates how many properties of the country are online. Click on any country you wish to visit, and you will be taken to the first page in that country's section. On each page there are links to all other properties in the same country. To return to this page, click on the "Back to index"-link on any of the individual pages.
