During the Soviet period of Lithuania 1940-1990 a large number of stamps related to Lithuania have been issued.  This branch of Lithuanian Philately being indispensable to the Lithuania collector, I have shown them here in chronological order.  

  • USSR 1947. From the series "Coat of Arms in the United Republics of the Soviet Union".  Lithuanian Soviet Republic's Coat of Arms.  

  • USSR 1950. 10th anniversary of Lithuanian Soviet Republic.  State Council Building, Vilnius.

  • USSR 1950. idem.  Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Vilnius.

  • USSR 1950  idem. Marytė Melnikaitė, partisan leader.  

  • USSR 1954.  50th birth anniversary of the Lithuanian poet Salomėja Nėris (1904-1954).

  • USSR 1955. From the series "Agricultural Exhibition in Moscow.  The Pavilion of the United Soviet Lithuanian Republic. 

 

  • USSR 1956.  Commemoration of the Lithuanian author Julija Žemaitė (1845-1921). The same image appears on a Lithuanian bank note, engraved by Czeslaw Slania. 

  • USSR 1957.  40th anniversary of the October Revolution.  Landscapes of the United Soviet Republics. 

  • USSR 1957.  Founder of the Lithuanian Communist Party V. Mickevičius-Kapsukas (1880-1935).  

  • USSR 1958.  Vilnius.  From the series "Views of the Capitals of the United Soviet Republics".

  • USSR 1959.  The Lithuanian writer Petras Cvirka (1909-1947).

  • USSR 1960.  Vilnius.  From the series "20 years of the Baltic and Moldavian Soviet Republics".  

  • USSR 1960.  Lithuanian National Costumes.

  • USSR 1962. 25th anniversary of the establishment of the French air Squadron "Normandy-Niemen". Scan by Thomas Roovers, The Netherlands. 

  • USSR 1963.  The Lithuanian composer Mikas Petrauskas (1873-1937).  In the background a scene from the Lithuanian Ballet "Eglė" ["The Fir Tree"]

  • USSR 1964.  The Lithuanian poet Kristijonas Donelaitis (1714-1780), 250th birth anniversary. 

  • USSR 1965.  25th anniversary of the establishment of the Lithuanian Soviet Republic. The stamp shows a woman in Lithuanian national costume and the Coat of Arms of the Soviet-Lithuanian Republic.

  • USSR 1967.  Coat of Arms.  From the series "50th anniversary of the October Revolution 1917-1967".  The stamp shows the coat of arms of the Lithuanian Soviet Republic on the background of the Soviet-Lithuanian flag and a view of Vilnius.

  • USSR 1967.  Holiday Resorts in the Baltic Countries.  The stamp shows the mud baths of Druskininkai in the southernmost part of Lithuania. 

  • USSR 1968.  50th anniversary of Soviet Power in Lithuania.  The stamp shows Gediminas Tower in Vilnius, flying the Soviet flag.

  • USSR 1969. Honouring Lithuanian Partisans.  The persons featured are (from left to right):  A. Čeponis,  J. Aleksonis,  and H. Borisa.  

  • USSR 1970.  400th anniversary of the University Library in Vilnius.  The stamp shows the ex-libris of the University. 

  • USSR 1972. 50th anniversary of the formation of the USSR. The Soviet Republics' official flags are in the selvedge. The Soviet/Lithuanian flag is the one top left. Scan contributed by Mr. Thomas Roovers, The Netherlands. 

  • USSR 1973.  650th anniversary of the City of Vilnius.  The stamp shows Gediminas Tower in Vilnius, flying the Soviet-Lithuanian flag, on the background of a general view of the city.

  • USSR 1974.  100th birth anniversary of the Lithuanian composer and painter M.K. Čiurlionis (1875-1911). 

  • USSR 1979.  400th anniversary of Vilnius University. 

  • USSR 1980.  40th anniversary of Lithuanian Soviet Republic.  Scott # 4846.
