In a contest for this issue, Pierre Albuisson's design was chosen No. 2, but the colours printed in taille-douce seemed an insurmountable work for the printers in Périgueux. 

The post office requested Pierre Albuisson to make a print of one of the subject matters on the sheet, this being Saint-Just, in order to state the printing feasibility for coming stamp issues. This proof is shown above right.
